Sports have the potential to bring a country together, and create memorable events for a lifetime. It’s NFL games like Monday’s game between The Baltimore Ravens and The Indianapolis Colts that get us so excited over sports, and it was nothing short of spectacular!

The Ravens came into the game versus the Colts as heavy favourites. The odds of them winning the game before the clock even started was 77%. However, the Colts quickly put that narrative to rest, scoring an 80-yard touchdown just two minutes into the game to gain a 7-0 lead. The two teams then kicked a field goal each in the 2nd quarter, leaving the Ravens trailing the Colts 10-3 at half. After converting zero of eight of their third downs at this point, the Ravens only had 114 yards of offense total. Basically, the Ravens offense had not shown up and the Colts were playing very well, but the game was definitely not out of reach just yet.

Within a minute of starting the 3rd quarter, the Colts made the game 16-3 with a touchdown after the extra point missed with only 29 minutes left in the game.  It was starting to get very tough for Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. Through a 7 minute long drive, the Ravens got the football to the Colts 1-yard line and were about to bring the game in reach, only to fumble the ball. Off of the fumble, the Colts took the ball down the field and scored a touchdown again within 4 minutes making the game 22-3 with 18 minutes left. The Baltimore Ravens fans in the arena seem lifeless, as the crowd is silenced and seemingly non-existent.

There were 18 minutes left in the game, with 19 points to overcome as the Ravens got the ball. If they had one chance to get back into this game, they had to make every look down the field count; and oh boy did they ever.

The Ravens, behind Lamar Jackson’s amazing passing, got the ball down the field in 2 minutes for a touchdown, making the score 22-9 for the Colts with 15:56 left in regulation. After killing 4 minutes of time, the Colts kicked a 47 yard field-goal and increased the lead to 25-9 with 11:54 remaining on the clock. In only 2 minutes after getting the ball back, the Ravens scored a touchdown to make the score 25-17 with 9:38 left. Mark Andrews, the hero who received his second touchdown of the night, got on one knee and prayed to his grandmother who passed away the previous week as a celebration. The Colts got the ball back and killed the 9:38 down to 4:35, being forced to kick a field goal. Calais Campbell jumped out of nowhere, blocking the field goal! The game remained 25-17 as the fans roared in excitement! With just 4 minutes to play the Ravens got the ball all the way down the field and scored a touchdown to tie the game 25-25 with 39 seconds left. It is worth noting that the Colts got the ball down the field in this short time, missing what would have been a game winning 47-yard touchdown. This game would need extra time!

The crowd erupted in excitement as the Ravens won the coin-flip, having a chance to complete this miracle comeback. The Ravens wasted no time getting down the field behind Lamar Jackson’s amazing passing, scoring the game winning touchdown in only 4 minutes of overtime. The crowd cheered so loudly you couldn’t hear the announcers, as everyone rushed onto the field in congratulations for completing the miracle comeback!

While proving that every yard counts, Lamar Jackson set a franchise-record 462 passing yards on Monday night, while setting an NFL record high 86% completion rate in a single game. After such a slow start, no one could have expected such an amazing performance from Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in the 2nd half. While many sports can bring this emotional roller-coaster, the NFL has consistently amazing games every week; just in case any of you new readers were inspired to start watching the sport! If anything is to be learned here, it is that the Ravens are a hot and resilient team to watch out for next week as they head into Los Angeles to play against the Chargers.
